"Overcrowded/ fire safety hazard"
July, 2018 NEW
We have visited the aquarium on 3/4 different occasions as we live in Myrtle beach and family visits but today this place was horribly overcrowded, where there an emergency no one could move. Even employees were having difficult maneuvering around the crowd. We left after an hour because it was impossible to view anything. Then we start to try to leave and get stuck in a line that is being sent through the Pearl Harbor exhibit twice!!! Not a good experienced

We weren't really impressed with the aquarium. It was crowded and unorganized. There wasnt much staff around and it seemed like every corner you turned they were trying to sell you something...I get marketing but I just felt like this was a little too much. Maybe it just wasnt a good fit for my family. We really enjoyed the wax museum & ripleys odditorium though.

I bought discount tickets online and it still cost over 100.00 for a family of four. This aquarium is a lot smaller and not as nice as the other Ripley Aquariums I have been to. You can easily see everything in an hour. The shark tunnel was the highlight of the place.

"TOO MANY PEOPLE"
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5

Can you say fire/safety hazard? They allowed so many people in that you couldn't move. People were standing 3 wide on all ramps, stairs and walkways. Thank God there were no emergencies. Due to the number of people, bit took us 20 minutes to navigate our way to an exit when we had finally seen everything.

We had gone here a number of times in the past but this was the first time back in quite awhile. In that time not much had changed; in a way a bit unfortunate. The aquarium is very nice with great displays and is just as I remembered it....no updates or improvements had been made. Over time you think they would want to change things up to keep past visitors coming back, but that wasn’t the case. As in previous visits, There are a few interactive areas with people being able to touch sting rays and horseshoe crabs. I remember staff being much more conversational to tell visitors about the animals and their environment. This time staff just stood there twirling their name tags or folding their arms. The new rotating exhibit is “Pearl Harbor”; not sure how or why that relates to an aquarium and with small kids in our group it wasn’t something we chose to investigate. In order to get to the underwater tunnel they routed you through a separate mini Pearl Harbor exhibit. Why? What a waste of time. The kids in our group wanted to see the mermaid show. It was a bit hokie but the kids in the audience seemed to enjoy it. To exit the aquarium you have to go through the gift shop which is the trickiest part of the experience especially when you have kids with you.
