This was our second stay at the Anderson Ocean Club. Our last visit was way back in 2008 when we stayed in a 2-bedroom oceanfront unit. During this visit, we stayed in a one-bedroom ocean view unit. The 1-bedroom unit had a master bedroom with king-sized bed, full kitchen, full bath, parlor with queen sleeper sofa, washer/dryer combo and a small balcony. All ocean view units are located on the side of the building and have an angled view of the ocean which was nicer than expected despite not directly facing oceanfront. From the balcony, we could also view south down Ocean Blvd and see the tops of some of the attractions at Broadway at The Beach to our west. The balcony was only large enough to accommodate two people comfortably and the angle of the building blocked a considerable amount of the nice ocean breeze but it was still a pleasant spot to relax and watch the scenery, particularly at dusk. Just enough of the breeze squeaks through to help alleviate some of the heat and humidity. Kitchen: The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, dinnerware, flatware, cups, glasses and utensils. All of the appliances were full-sized with the exception of a tiny dishwasher. We noticed that some of the plates were chipped and some of the cutlery and other items were noticeably worn and stained. We reported it to housekeeping immediately but were advised that nothing could be replaced because we were staying in a privately-owner unit. We were advised that the dishes were the responsibility of the owner. We sat the broken dishes aside and used the remaining good dinnerware. Bedroom/Parlor: The master bedroom is on the inside of the unit and doesn’t face the exterior. Instead, it has a window that faces the interior corridor and, in our case, a maintenance room door. There was a huge king-size bed that rose quite high on a solid wood frame. A large wooden dresser provided ample drawer space and the closet was nice and spacious as well. The room also contained two nightstands, a ceiling fan, a decorative bench with pillows and artwork on the walls. The parlor had the queen sleeper sofa, a four seat dining set, a non-reclining chair, coffee table, two end tables and a credenza. There were 26” LG LCD televisions in both the bedroom and the parlor. They were pretty dated looking and quite small. The manufacture date on one set was 2007, which explains why it felt like they were the exact same model/size sets in use when we visited the hotel in 2008. The parlor also had a DVD player next to the TV and a safe inside the credenza. The safe behaved flaky the entire time, usually requiring two attempts to lock before it finally malfunctioned completely on the last night of our stay. All of our valuables were locked inside. Maintenance opened the safe and advised that the problem was caused by a faulty motor. The washer was next item to malfunction later that evening. Maintenance had to come over once again to fix the drum in the washer. After the repair, my wife found a live bullet inside the washing machine as she was reloading the clothes. It apparently had been there the entire time and was washing along with our clothes before the machine malfunctioned. By that point, I was relieved we were leaving the next morning. Bathroom: Nothing special good or bad to report here. Average bathroom was clean and contained metal towel rack and a one-piece tub and shower. There was ample space for toiletries. Amenities: Guests are entitled to free admission to Wild Water & Wheels waterpark and daytime golf at Lost Mine mini-golf for the duration of their stay. The mini-golf is located directly across the street but the waterpark is about 10 miles south towards Murrells Inlet. Complimentary DVD rentals were also included with several recent titles available for rent. The indoor and outdoor pools, lazy river and hot tub were usually busy but never overly full. There were always more kids than adults in the pools. There’s also a toddler pool but I rarely saw any tots in it, most likely due to several guests using the pool as a foot washer to rinse sand off their feet rather than its intended use. Beach access from the resort is excellent, with a gate and shower directly in front of the resort. There’s also a lifeguard on duty nearby. One thing to note is that hotel guests must cross the driveway in the valet and loading area to reach the pool and beach from the hotel. The driveway is pretty tight for the steady flow of traffic it sees and usually quite busy with valet service, arriving/departing guests, guests loading and unloading luggage or groceries, deliveries and service staff vehicles. Caution should be used, especially with small children. There are plenty of attractions nearby within walking or short driving distance. Broadway at the Beach is a little over a mile west of the hotel. The boardwalk and attractions like Ripley’s Haunted Adventure and House of Mirrors are about the same distance south down Ocean Blvd. Parking: The parking garage is offsite. Guests have to cross two streets and walk up an alley to reach it. The first three levels of the garage are reserved exclusively for valet. Self-parking guests must park on the third level or higher and take the elevator or stairs to and from ground level. There was a lot of rain during our stay including two thunderstorms that hit the area twice at the exact same times we returned to the hotel. One storm was pretty severe, so I dropped the family off safely inside the hotel in the valet area and drove to the garage where I parked and waited for the storm to subside before walking back over to the hotel. Other than inclement weather, it can feel a little sketchy walking through the alley to the garage very late at night or pre-dawn when no other people are around. Conclusion: We have mixed feelings about our recent stay at the Anderson. We had fun and enjoyed ourselves in Myrtle Beach for the most part. The staff was also always very friendly and helpful. It would have helped if the weather was a bit more cooperative instead of raining nearly every day but those are the breaks. Other than finding a live bullet in the washing machine, the biggest issue we encountered during our stay was the confusion of ownership/management. The odd mixture of private vs corporate owned units coupled with the recent switch(?) from Oceana/Wyndham to Hilton Grand has made responsibility for certain repairs and replacements confusing to say the least. We were able to get the appliances fixed but as we found out with the chipped dishes, some issues aren’t capable of being addressed immediately due to the gray area between corporate vs private owner responsibility. Who is ultimately responsible for overall customer satisfaction? Is it Hilton, Wyndham, private owners or all of the above? We booked under Hilton but were told that the broken dishes couldn't be replaced because we were staying in a privately-owned unit. Meanwhile, the hotel website still says it’s an Oceana/Wyndham property. I honestly don't know who is responsible for the property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the property. The front desk staff was especially hospitable and friendly . The room was beautiful and clean. We had a room move during our stay which was executed effortlessly. By the time we came in from the beach for lunch everything was complete. We visit the area several times a year, but only go to specific properties due to the condo owners not keeping their units updated. However, we did not encounter this problem at the Anderson, and will add it to our list of properties for a repeat visit. I must also note that the hotel was at maximum occupancy during our visit and we did not hear a peep from other guests.

The hotel was very nice, but they don't have any parking by the actual hotel. You have to go a block away to a parking garage. A plus though is that they have Peter Thomas Roth shower products in the bathrooms!

We stayed here right after they opened and enjoyed our vacation then. It has only gotten better. We loved the Starbucks in the lobby, the courtesy desk text messaging, the dvd rentals in the lobby. Our room was very nicely furnished and situated. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Elevators were fast, clean and felt secure. Pool area received lots of attention.

We booked this hotel for our anniversary online for one night. It was really expensive but we figured it was a special day so let's make it worth it. When we arrived we were disappointed to find that what we booked as ocean view was really partial view. After talking with an employee and then the manager, they upgraded us which was really nice of them (but misleading online). We visited the spa which was great. The service there was amazing. Next we went to the pool. What we thought was a lazy river was really a small circular pool. Really cramped and only one tube fits at a time width wise. Most of the pool areas are in the shade if you are into that. The bar near the pool was nothing special and the bartender was "off." The bar restroom was not clean. Later when we came home from dinner there was no turn down service. Disappointed for the price. I would not stay here again.
