I have stayed at the caravelle every time except once in the last 15 years. The rates are good and the location is close to all places you want to go or see. Depending on the room you choose you will have a great view of the ocean and plenty of room to move around and enjoy your stay. Parking can be a problem if you have a large van or truck. I like staying either in the main building or St clements but parking is really hard with my truck but can park within walking distance. So if your planing a vacation to the beach you may want to think about booking your stay with the caravelle...

"Not the same level of service we are used to"

We have stayed here at the Caravelle (jacuzzi suite in the main tower) for several years now and this last trip (9/16-9/23/16) I am sad to say was a bit disappointing. We requested 3rd or 4th floor room, upon arrival we were given 1st floor room-this would have been a deal breaker for us but they did find us a room on the 4th floor. Overall the room was ok. Buttons were missing on the Jacuzzi, but it worked so no big deal there. The toilets only flushed half the time, still not enough to ruin trip. Our issues were that there is one of those great big lights right outside of the balcony (which is off the bedroom/Jacuzzi area) that STAYED ON THE ENTIRE TIME...YES EVEN THROUGHOUT THE DAY!. We could not leave the curtains open at night, it was absolutely blinding. What a waste of money to leave them all on all day, all of the lights. We had no maid service until Tuesday the 20th, and that was minimal. The girl that took care of our room that day had absolutely no interest in doing her job and acted as we were putting her out when we asked her to vacuum the front kitchen area. If we stay again, I am just going to ask for a weeks worth of towels and a vacuum and do it myself. The indoor pool area had an overwhelming smell of bleach, you couldn't hardly stay in there and the water was cold. That was a first for that, usually it is the hot tubs that are problematic. The grounds are usually kept very neat and clean and in the past we have seen maintenance/grounds persons routinely picking up trash, landscaping etc. For some reason, it deeply bothered me that every time I went out on the balcony, I saw the same piece of trash out on the lawn the entire weekend. It wasn't picked up until Monday, the same day we noticed the grounds being tended to. It was more than obvious they are trying to cut back on things and with the exception of the staff and cooks at the Santa Maria restaurant, the level of service we received and witnessed was less than stellar and not what we have experienced in the past. We really had a difficult time giving the rating we did for this trip and these things were not enough to ruin our vacation, but we will more than likely look into another place to stay for the holidays. So sad!

"Excellent maintenance staff"

While visiting my cousins at the Caravelle I was impressed with how hard the maintenance staff is working to restore the resort after Matthew. They all seem to be working hard yet are friendly and courteous. I was especially impressed with John P., the maintenance supervisor. He asks the guests if everything is going well and immediately starts to rectify any problems. He seems to sincerely care about the guests. Caravelle staff is an asset to the resort.

"Decent room, great staff"

This is definitely one of those situations where staff can make such a difference. The hotel itself is pretty typical of Myrtle Beach, and being here shortly after a hurricane certainly didn't help. Only one elevator worked, construction and repair crews floated around getting the place back into repair. But what made the difference was the staff who went above and beyond to be kind and generous. Emily, Stevie, and Ms Judy at in the hotel restaurant were wonderful and really made sure we started off each day in the most pleasant way possible.
