My family and I were all going to stay at the Caravelle Resort. Due to the hurricane that damage part of the resort, one of the rooms we booked was unavailable. The manager was nice enough to give my family options on our rooms. It all worked out for the best.

Disappointing to say the least. We booked this resort on a recommendation from a friend. Previously we stayed at Ocean Reef and I really wish we were there instead. Although the Caravelle tower is pretty much beachfront the building is not really kept it. The bathroom downstairs does not smell nice. We still haven't been able to locate the ice machine. And the indoor/outside pool was closed for unknown reasons. The wifi also isn't the best. We were informed just log onto whoever has the strongest signal. So it's pretty much an insecure login. The real downer is that most of the amenities and features they offer are unavailable. During one of the days during our stay we attempted to go to the indoor pool after the beach closed due to weather. We were advised the indoor pool was also closed due to the weather. How does that even make sense? Isn't that the entire reason for the indoor pool. Upon further investigation we were informed it was closed due to renovations from hurricane damage. Today we tried to access the game room and it was also closed due to the renovations. So is the sun deck. Apparently these renovations have been going on for awhile. I wish we would've known this prior to booking because we wouldn't have booked here. Also the pool grill does not open on time. Pretty much it's never open. The other day it was sunny. No rain. We went to the pool grill and it was closed. We asked what time they opened and were informed 12 noon. It was past noon and it was still closed. I'm not quite sure what the issue is there. We ended up going to Ocean Reef to eat. And the pool is dry. They have music but it's so low you can barely hear it. The staff just sits and talks amongst each other without acknowledging you. I'm only giving it a 2 because of some of the staff. Unfortunately I don't remember the young lady's name that checked us in. She had braids and she was super nice and friendly. The breakfast staff are also nice - Ms Judy. Ms. Stevie. Robert. And Victoria. The breakfast isn't the best but their service and friendly smiles make up for it. Overall I don't recommend this place. Ocean Reef is much nicer. And the breakfast is yummy. And the amenities are working and available. And their pool and staff are fun. Save yourself the trouble.

"Should be even better next year!"

We liked our stay here so much last year that we came back this year! Staying at the St Clement tower this time and have a Queen suite with the ocean-front or view room. It was good to see the fine breakfast at Santa Maria was back! Judy is the best! The reason that I say it should be better next year is that Caravelle is doing a lot of renovations at the main tower now, that should update a lot of those rooms. They also renovated the main restaurant, indoor pool and some other things that just opened back up about August 1st, and look great. The service is still excellent from the employees, especially Victoria at the front desk (who is from the Roanoke area, the same as us!), and many thanks to Cedric who helped me with all our luggage, when he saw that I was struggling a bit! Overall, more good memories at the Caravelle for my wife and daughter! Good job guys!!
