"Disappointed....has potential"

Wow-what started as a conference/beach trip turned into a daily trip to the front desk with problems. We recently stayed here to attend a conference. The reservation was made at the Embassy Suites, where we thought we would be staying. Upon checking in, we were told our room was in the South Hampton tower, adjacent to the main hotel. While it is connected by a walkway, it is a totally different property that is a residential condo. Our room was straight out of 1982 with worn carpet, dated furniture and no working air conditioner. Our first trip the front desk. While we ate lunch, a maintenance worker supposedly fixed the problem. By the next evening, we were without air conditioning again. At 11:00 p.m. we were packing our belongings to move to a different floor. The 2nd room was just as dated.. although it was a bit cooler. Once we got unpacked and tried to get a few hours sleep, we found that the headboards were not connected to the bed and the air conditioning was once again not cooling in this room either. It was totally unacceptable. Back to the front desk. By this time, we were told we could move to a room in the Embassy Suites so we pack up for a third time. Finally! A clean room with cool air! Later in the evening, we realized that our credit card had been charged 3 times. Each time we were moved, their "computer system" had our status as "checked out" so we were charged. Back to the front desk again. It was extremely frustrating to be attending a conference and then spending free time dealing with issues. While the charges were removed and we were given 1 complimentary night, as we checked out on the final day, the desk clerk reminded us that "the hotel lost money on our stay". REALLY??! Bottom line is: I actually liked the property. It is centrally located to the popular attractions in MB. The pools were wonderful with great lounge chairs and plenty of things for kids and adults to do. It has direct access to the beach and the parking was always readily available. The breakfast that is offered to guests in the Embassy Suites was very good and offered nearly anything you would want for breakfast. The downside is, if you book and expecting to stay in the Embassy Suites, you may be in for a huge disappointment if your room is another building. It may be well below Embassy Suites/Hilton standards. I'm not sure who decides on the arrangement with South Hampton tower but in my opinion, it could very well be the downfall of a business. The Embassy Suites could have a great thing going, but serious upgrades need to be made to adjacent properties. If attending a conference and planning to stay at the Embassy, I would only recommend it if there was a guarantee that the room be in the main hotel building.

"Typical Myrtle Beach maybe worse."
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5
Reviewed June 16, 2018 NEW
We do not normally take the time to write reviews. In fact, with the belief that most are fake we do not read positive reviews. The negative reviews are where you find good information. We booked Kingston Plantation Lake View Condos through Hilton because we wanted to stay somewhere in Myrtle Beach that was actually nice. We had stayed in the Brighton by company expense before and that was very nice. With a campus that has an Embassy Suites, 10 ish indoor/outdoor pools, little water park for kids, tennis courts, volleyball courts, playgrounds, … What we got was typical Myrtle Beach or worse. We first arrived check in is at the really nice Embassy Suites. We walked in to find a Disney World long line of people including the ones paying $500+ a night to stay at the Embassy trying to check in. At the Embassy there were ten terminals for staff to check in guests but only three staff working check ins. One might say we got there at a bad time but we over hear someone walking by who had checked in hours earlier said that the line had been that way for the entire time. Half way through our hour long wait to check in what looked like a manager stepped up to help speed things along at a fourth terminal. Our hour long wait became over and check in honestly took less than 2 minutes to do and we were off to find our retreat for the week. We came to our room that at first glance seems ok. There was tile floor throughout, nice but cheap appliances in the kitchen, granite counters in the kitchen and bath. All lipstick on a pig. Within 30 minutes our feet were solid black from the floors never really been clean. The floors had the light grit of sand everywhere in the room. Almost all the outlets are so worn out you can hardly get a little charger to stay plugged in anywhere. Next we find in a suite that is supposed to hold 4 adults has one tiny dresser with 4 drawers. This is the only piece of furniture with any storage. By that evening we found that the toilet made up of worn out parts constantly ran because there was no longer any spring in the flusher to raise the flapper chain to keep it from going under the flapper. The bedroom bed had no comforter or duvet. What we had was a brown blanket sandwiched between two flat sheets like we were camping or something. We thought ok well maybe that makes it easier to clean and swap out every day. The blanket sandwich was never swapped out and our bed was only made twice in our stay. The sheets felt like sandpaper rough and gritty. We washed the sheets just to see if it was just sand in the sheets but that wasn’t the case. Another oddity was the fitted sheet was just a flat sheet tucked in but it worked. Now to the sofa bed. The only provided options for the sofa bed was another brown blanket and one pillow. There were no sheets made available. But that is ok as we folded out the sofa bed we found a nice yellow mattress with dark stains to sleep on. With no sheets this is what my kids were supposed to sleep on (they did not). The next morning in our completely screened in porch with a nice view we find a pile of animal feces that was decaying. With no way to enter this porch but by the door apparently someone had brought a pet to stay in the past and apparently no one cleans the porches. Our trip to the beach was a typical success but we will no longer stay at any of the Kingston Plantation Condos. They are third class and being left behind. If you can afford it step up to the Kingston Plantation ocean front resorts otherwise find somewhere else to stay.
