"Great beach location - Average hotel accommodations!"

Been coming to the MB area over 35 years - even owned a condo in the past. Stayed at numerous locations on the Grand Strand. First visit to this facility was when new - hotel has been here about 15 years. Although rooms were renovated about a year ago, the property still seems a bit worn and dated. Traveling extensively, have stayed in many Marriott Resorts. As a Lifetime Platinum Elite, we understand "Resorts" don't have concierge lounges nor do they offer standard Elite benefits. The room decor was somewhat modern with a subdued gray color scheme. Extra towels weren't in room as requested - Housekeeping employee seemed annoyed when we requested a couple extra sets. Carpet had crumbs on floor never cleaned during our stay. Room view was nice - stay on the South side for best ocean/beach scenery. Hotel is in a complex with several Marriott Vacations timeshare condos - have to be careful driving at night as the condo folks cross the entrance road in the dark. Need lighting along the road. Overall, an average facility for the MB area.

We have used this hotel numerous times and every single time the workers are kind, smiling and attentive. The rooms are super clean as is the pool area. We love the location being close to everything, yet tucked away from the chaos.

My wife and I come here on business about once a year, the staff is excellent, the facilities well kept, the food good, and despite high occupancy, very accommodating for a quick beach getaway. Overall, short of renting a beach house with staff, it is hard to beat.

So it pains me to write less than a glowing overall review for such a beautiful resort which has been a favorite for years. Have been here for two days with my family, still have another two days and am in my room wondering if the hotel shop has allergy medicine I can purchase to help combat the effects of being in a room that reeks of mildew. Upon arrival I had to search for a bellman and stood by my car for several minutes before being greeted and helped. (Not a deal breaker but in the service industry it's the little things). Despite requesting an ocean front room with two beds on the Marriott website I was told at check-in that the only ocean front rooms available had king beds. (I am standing there with my 74 year old mother and my 14 year old son. Um no, a king won't work). Disappointing. Manager comes over and let's me know that my request was just that, a request, and not a guarantee. Really? (Ironic since my Amex certainly served as their guarantee.) He suggested a compromise I accepted, a partial ocean view and an adjusted room rate. I accepted as I had no other choice. We were pleasantly surprised with the room location which was better than expected. All was ok until we realized at bedtime that the room smelled like mildew. Eyes stinging, throat hurting kind of mildew. Wouldn't expect that after a renovation and have never experienced that here before. Bummer but not going through the hassle of packing up and trying to move. That's the room experience. Now for the two star service at poolside and in the restaurant/bar. It was simply poor. Servers seemed different from past experience . Not as eager. Not as helpful. Not as competent. (Sorry) Certainly not what it used to be 2,3 and 4 years ago. The food itself, however, was very, very good. A star for the chef. Now for the pluses. Gorgeous property (still) with the best pools on the strand. Wonderful landscaping. Good poolside drinks (when they finally come), good poolside cabana rentals and umbrella rental options on the beach.

We were offered a pleasant, friendly check in. Love the cool, flavoured water. The rooms are much nicer with the recent renos. The view, the pools and the beach...all delightful. Rent a couple of chairs and an umbrella and enjoy your little piece of paradise. Wait staff at the pool restaurant are a busy, but generally pretty quick and efficient. Food is good. I would go again.
