"The room was not what I expected"
July, 2016
The room was not what I expected! The bath tub was not draining the toilet did not flush until the last day I was there that was very uncomfortable. They front desk people where really nice and maintenance people where very helpfull. But housekeeping would be waiting outside the door waiting for you to get out that was very uncomfortable.

"Very Good and Inexpensive Vacation"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5
Reviewed November 19, 2017 NEW
I wanted to do an inexpensive vacation at Myrtle Beach in October (10/10 - 10/22/17). I noted Sand Castle Oceanfront at the Pavilion but had some doubts about its lower number of stars and the particular details of the less favorable reviews. I went with two alternate hotels ready as backups and was prepared to pay 50-75% more if needed. My experience was very good. Staff and manager were always polite, flexible and immediately helpful in addressing any concern with action. Room was fine (don't expect luxury, but everything was more than decent, or nice) and the oceanfront balcony was a delight. Lazy river, indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub all were relaxing. Walking distance to numerous restaurants and food stores was very convenient. Being right on the ocean allowed me to wake up and just go in the ocean or take a brief walk on the beach at night under the stars before sleeping. I'd recommend it to others with enthusiasm. "Weekend Getaway"
TripAdvisor user rating 3 out of 5
Reviewed October 25, 2017 NEW
We stayed this past weekend for the first time at Sandcastle. We stayed in the South Building. Check in was fine, room was clean, convenient location. Indoor pool area was unclean (we wanted to swim, but it looked dirty). One ice machine for the whole building and it was broken. Had to go to next building, which it was broken also. Air conditioner leaked on us on the balcony from the floor above. There was so many people smoking on their balconies, that we could not enjoy sitting on ours. Air conditioner in the room made an awful noise. Had called the front and asked housekeeping not to clean our room because we were just walking down to the beach for a few minutes. (Front desk had transferred me to housekeeping, I told them, she said ok, also told the housekeeper on our floor), when we came back housekeeper in our room. Not a big issue, but we needed to get changed and had to wait. Parking was awful and it was not even busy, so I can only imagine the mess in the summer. I would probably stay here again, in the off season, if I wanted to be close to the strip area and didn't care about swimming in an indoor pool.

"V old hotel but great location"

This place is extremely dated so don't stay here if you are trying to impress. The hotel was relatively clean and the room was fine. No trouble with any of the facilities either but the hotel is spread throughout 3 buildings so explore and make sure you know what the place has to offer. The location is perfect in Myrtle Beach, it's right on the beach and just a few blocks walk to the boardwalk. Broadway on the Beach is just a $6-8 cab fare away. The hotel is on Ocean Boulevard so book ahead and try to secure a room on an upper floor to ensure a peaceful night sleep during busier times. AC in the room we stayed was very noisy so we just turned it off. Staff seemed agreeable enough to me but we only stayed one night.

"Really would like to rate this place higher BUT can't stand being treated like a child"

First, the good...everything in our room appeared clean. I liked the convenient location. HOWEVER, I've never stayed anywhere where full grown adults had so many rules to follow...particularly no coolers/beer at the pool unless you bought theirs! All pools closed at 10 p.m. No restaurant on site (although their website stated there was). Out of five days, the tiki bar was only open a few hours Friday and Saturday evenings; however, the bartender Saturday evening was nice. The only staff that were nice to us were the male service/grounds workers that helped us when we were leaving. We were never provided toilet paper unless we made the trip to the service desk (we stayed on the seventh floor and the one elevator was as slow as molasses); the same for any other common amenities (soap, shampoo, lotion). No ice machine on any floor except first (sign stated only one bucket per room..ha!). I am providing these details for those of us who care since none of this information was provided prior to booking. Anyway, it could be a good place to stay for families with small children but not for us older people looking to enjoy our vacations.

If you can find a parking spot in this nightmare of a garage, the first thing you notice when you step off the elevator is the odor. Musty and old. Of course, the overflowing garbage pails in the hallways don't help that situation. Come on people. Don't you have any pride in your product? Shouldn't your employees see that and either empty them or find someone who will? The room itself was old and musty. The only thing it had going for it was the ocean view. Not good enough to warrant the price or the aggravation of the running toilet and dripping shower. Or being woken up at 3:00 am by people running up and down the halls screaming. I was told the hotel underwent a whole renovation last year and all of the rooms were redone. I don't know what they consider redone, but this wasn't it. There are way too many other places in Myrtle Beach that are much more accommodating and clean. The staff makes no apologies for the sas state of this hotel. Move on folks. Don't waste your time or money. We checked out after the first horrific night and went elsewhere.
