"The room was not what I expected"
July, 2016
The room was not what I expected! The bath tub was not draining the toilet did not flush until the last day I was there that was very uncomfortable. They front desk people where really nice and maintenance people where very helpfull. But housekeeping would be waiting outside the door waiting for you to get out that was very uncomfortable.

Check in was a joke. No travel maps or guides in lobby , dirty old carpets. I overheard the clerk telling a patron that they were too busy to bring things to his room, but he could come get them. What is that about ???? Rooms smelled from other people cooking fried white fish. Rooms were spacious but outdated and musty. House keeping was a joke , they don't do anything really unless u ask specifically. Wifi was horrible , people allowed to smoke at pool so there was cig butts all over flower beds and even on pool patio. Only good thing about pool was cabana bar . Nice and friendly but prob only because it's privately owned. Skip this place it's nasty and not worth it . Spend a few more dollars and stay next door at the nicer places .

The Sandcastle Resort always has staff walking around the pool looking for coolers, they dont allow you to have a cooler at pool because of their Tiki Bar. It makes you feel like you are being watched all the time.If you didn't buy your beer or drink from the bar they make you pour it out! Also not many chairs, five tables but only two umbrellas. Had to use my own.You pay too much money to be treated like a kid,Also pool dirty.Ice machines only on one floor, one not working. Also don't allow you to grill out on property, pool patrol also looks for that! Last but not least this cooler ban is nowhere to be found on the Sandcastle website they make you sign and initial a list of regulations when you check in surprise !

"A little old and dirty"

We knew from looking at reviews that the hotel needed some updating but we did not expect it to be so dirty. The outdoor pool I could not even allow my children to get in, people were eating sandwiches etc. so there was remnants of food in the pool. It was not until our third day that our room was cleaned. We called numerous times on our second day to have the room cleaned, the young woman answering was kind but not very helpful. When someone finally came (between 5-6pm when we were out) they simply made the beds (with sandy sheets) the trash wasn't emptied, towels were left on the counter, the floors were not swept, no toilet paper was in the bathroom, and no toiletries were left. When I called the front desk to see if this was how rooms were typically cleaned the young lady advised she didn't know what was done in the rooms. I asked for a manager but she said that there was not one on site that evening. IMO it is essential that hotel rooms on the beach are cleaned daily because of the sand being tracked around. I swept the room the first two days and unfortunately swept up cheerios and cotton swabs (neither of which were ours) which means the room was not cleaned well between guests. This hotel has the potential to be good for families as they have kitchens in each room which is a great money saver and great access to the beach, but they really need to step up their cleaning. I put socks on my daughter to keep her feet off of the floor while in the room (she is two and quite active) and after just a few moments the bottoms were black with dirt. The elevators are quick but stay wet and dirty (once there seemed to be a puddle of urine in one and the scent was quite strong but normally it is just water from dripping bathing suits which is expected). Check in was quick and easy. We transferred to another hotel for the remainder of our stay. I will say after complaining about our room not being cleaned for so many days they did come every remaining day, changing the sheets and sweeping. The wi-fi, although free, is quite unreliable. It seemed to only be available later in the evening and even then it was spotty.

"Roach Infested Hotel"

We have stayed at the Sandcastle for the last four or five years and this hotel was an ok hotel but now it is horrible and we have never been so disappointed. Our room was on the 8th floor and in order to use the wifi, we had to go down to the lobby; the outdoor pool was closed for two days as the hotel did not have all of their certifications; the place is infested with roaches; the refrigerator did not work and we were told that there were no addition refrigerators and no other rooms. The maids had just come in with clean towels, placed them on the counter and departed. Shortly thereafter, my husband went into the bathroom and one came out from the clean towels; i picked something up off the floor and had two roaches crawling up my arm. When I went to the front desk with regard to the roaches, it appeared to be an everyday thing and there was no concern. I inquired as to a refund and/or discount and was told that charges are processed upon arrival and are fully nonrefundable.

"SO terrible, we left!"

I looked through some reviews, prior to booking our stay, and I thought that it was possible that people were just being too picky. Boy, was I wrong!! The entire building, inside our room, hallways, and elevator all smelled horrible. Like spoiled dairy products. The smell turned my stomach, but we were determined to make the best of it, as it was very late when we arrived. We walked down to the beach for a short while and when we got back to the room, our kids got into the shower to rinse off some sand. There was hair all over the tub! In the meantime, my husband and I pulled down the Murphy bed and glanced behind it. What a mistake! Not only was it filthy, there was trash back there! We could not sleep in this hotel. It was midnight by this point, we had driven 14 hours to get there, but we left anyway. I cannot understand how anyone could give this place a good review. It was absolutely horrible!
