from The Carolina Opry
If you only see one show, this is the one! The Carolina Opry has won every major South Carolina tourism award including Most Outstanding Attraction and the prestigious Governor's Cup. Year after year, The Carolina Opry is voted the Best Show by readers of the Myrtle Beach Sun News, a Knight-Ridder newspaper. And it's the only show that has been featured on NBC Nightly News, CNN, TNN, and USA Today, which called it "A Big Hit.” The New York Post called it "A Hot Ticket.”

Entertainer and entrepreneur Calvin Gilmore launched The Carolina Opry on South Carolina's Grand Strand in 1986. His live music variety show features a cast of 36 of the nation's top singers, dancers, comedians and musicians in its own 2200-seat show palace with state-of-the-art sound and lighting and three giant video screens. The show, which is continually updated with new music and comedy, is two hours of high energy entertainment that blends humor and dancing with everything from rock 'n roll, Broadway, and country to classic hits, pop melodies and gospel. Young and old are counted among its fans who are sure to include a performance in their visit to Myrtle Beach.

In November and December, the theater is transformed into a winter wonderland where the magic of the season comes alive in The Carolina Opry Christmas Special a wonderfully dazzling, jolly and sentimental musical celebration of America's best-loved holiday.

Tip: Most seats are good, but we sat very near the front and felt more a part of the show.

"Thunder and Light"

Attended the Thunder and Light show today and found it to be quite entertaining. We were entertained by singers, dancers, an amazing laser show and the wonderful clogging of All That! Christmas decorations were abundant as they get ready for their Christmas show starting in November. Wish we in the area to see that show!! The Opry has a lovely gift shop and a concession area where you can purchase popcorn and/or a beverage.Parking is plentiful but be aware of the many buses bringing tourists from all over. There were groups there today from several states including Texas, West Virginia, Indiana, Pennsylvania. Seating is abundant; however I found that when I sat down I couldn't see the stage due to person in seat ahead of me and had to move back a couple rows. We were entertained by singers, dancers, magic, a laser show, and of course the fantastic clogging of All That.....the highlight of the show. Videotaping/recording is not allowed but you may take pictures including flash photos. This is not your typical "tourist trap" so if you have the time, don't miss one of the many available shows. Dress is casual....Enjoy!!!

I guess when we heard Carolina OPRY we assumed this show would feature country music. WRONG! They did one section dedicated to classic country but the rest was definately not country. The show itself was well done with great voices, just not what we thought it would be. So if you are think you are going to a version of the Grand Ole Opry you are worng.

This was our 2nd show of the week and it was going to be tough to match the first! The performers are great and we were not disappointed! I thought the vocalist were better here, you could understand them and hear the words! Talented talented people!! Loved the act "All That!" a group of cloggers! They are awesome! All 3 shows we attended paid tribute to the veterans and active duty in the audience. Very nice ! You won't be disappointed!

I've attended the Carolina Opry several times over the past 14 years and never been disappointed. The music and comedy routines change but always maintain the highest quality of enjoyment. Just one issue with this most recent visit. Upon entry my wife and I were immediately approached by a lady, who appeared to be on the Opry staff. She told us in a very authoritative way that we had to check in with someone before we entered the theater. She took several steps with us, effectively herding us towards a woman at a table. Turns out it was someone pushing timeshares. While nothing could diminish the enjoyment of the show, we were offended that the Opry had sunk to such stunts. Strongly suggest in the future they post signage and let those interested visit the lady's table.

Frequently Asked Questions about The Carolina Opry

When should I arrive for the show?
If you would like to watch the pre-show, we recommend arriving at the theater between 30 and 45 minutes prior to showtime. Otherwise, arriving no later than 10 minutes before the show will do just fine.

I am running late to the show. Will my group still be allowed to see the show?
Dependent on how late your party arrives, your entry to the show is at the manager’s discretion. Once the curtain is up, the show utilizes special effects and bright lights. If you arrive too late to the show, your reserved seats may no longer be available.

Is the theater accessible for wheelchairs and other mobility issues?
Yes. While you can book wheelchair accessible seats online, we highly recommend calling our box office to ensure you receive the seats necessary to accommodate your needs.

The following sections are designed specifically for individuals with wheelchairs:

Premium Section – Sections A and C, row 1
Regular Section – Sections A and C, rows 2 through 6 on the outside aisle, Sections D and H rows 7, 8 and 17

In addition, all aisle seats on the ground floor are Disability Aisle Transfer seats. The seat arm raises completely out of the way and allows you to be transferred into the theater seat.

For additional mobility questions, please call customer service.
