"Grand Experience"

Each year as the Christmas Holidays approach, my wife and I look forward to starting our celebration with this show. We have never been disappointed! At one time, we tried others in the area but could not find one to compare. The production, talent, and costumes are the best. We find ourselves seeing this one every year, often more than once.
Tip: Be prepared for the unexpected. It is delightful and entertaining.

"Time and again"
January, 2015
In this day of competing mediums, it is great to have the shared experience, one that the whole family can enjoy, that does not involve looking at a phone, TV, or computer. Year after year my family anticipates the attending of this seasonal event, and that includes our youngest grandson, age five, to this sixty three year old grand-dad. This last year, with the recent return of our son from his military tour in Afghanistan, we were not disappointed in the least as he and his kids joined us for this events. All the kids want to go again next year!
Tip: Expect to see quality entertainment, even if you have gone before, and you will not be disappointed.

We took our elderly parents along with sister and brother to the Christmas Show. It was spectacular. Our parents who are in their 80's loved every minute. We laughed so much at the comedian, and the music was beautiful. This is a great way to spend time together and enjoy the Christmas season.

Our second Christmas show while in Myrtle Beach and just as good as the first. All performers were terrific with special shout for the Ricky Mokel act. The Mokel character's humor was understated good clean fun with a little politics and some self-deprivation. He had us howling most of the time. We were told there is a special show at this theatre that only focuses on the Ricky Mokel character, now that would worth another visit to Myrtle.

This was the second time we had visited Alabama Theatre. First time to view a Christmas show. Good singers; fast paced show. Tends to jump from secular songs to popular/vintage Christmas songs quickly. Also has some patriotic music which is a little off setting for a Christmas show. The comedian (R Mokel) is very funny! This theatre tends to draw in the senior citizens and bus tours but is family friendly.

We have been going to the Myrtle Beach area since the early 1980s and own a condo there. This year we spent Thanksgiving there and saw the Christmas shows at both the Carolina Opry and the Alabama Theatre. It pains me to say this, but there is no comparison in the two shows. The Alabama Theatre is the clear winner. Although the Carolina Opry has very talented singers and musicians there were several things missing from the show. The decorations in the theater were lovely but there was very little thought to the stage, with practically no Christmas sets to set the mood. There were a couple of high points, particularly the welcome return of Rocky Fretz to the piano. He is nothing short of phenomenal. But overall, there was a lack of warmth and fun to the whole production and the comedy only had two things to recommend - Eric Gumm and his horse and Aunt Dessie - both of which perform in their regular shows also. On the other hand, the Alabama Theatre show was fabulous from start to finish. They had wonderful Christmas sets on stage and the choice of songs was first rate (unlike the Carolina Opry which actually sang a song about Daddy looking like Santa Claus with children in the audience - what were they thinking?) The Alabama Theatre's emcee, Greg Rowles, is not only talented but obviously a genuinely nice and caring individual, and the rest of the cast is second to none. The dancers were also wonderful and there were also a couple of numbers while they were suspended above the stage. All in all, you will not make a mistake if you choose the Alabama Theatre to put you in the Christmas spirit.
